J. Kathleen Marcus, Esq.
Wednesday, December 7, 2022
5:00 pm PST / 8:00 pm EST
Presented by DOCS Education General and Regulatory Counsel, J. Kathleen Marcus, Esq.
Your state dental board serves a variety of functions including drafting regulation that governs the practice of dentistry in your state and enforcing those regulations. It is also the body that issues permits required to use sedation in your practice, supervises office inspections, and investigates complaints.
So, what do you do if your state dental board comes knocking?
During this invaluable presentation, DOCS Education’s Regulator Counsel, J. Kathleen Marcus, Esq., will discuss items critical to your understanding of the dental board’s capacity and authority. Kate will provide tips so you can be prepared to respond to a notice from your state dental board.
During this presentation, Ms. Marcus will discuss items critical to your understanding:
- A dental board’s role is to protect the public, not to protect dentists
- The board is not a jury of your peers
- Board staff is not able to give you legal advice including the requirements for sedation permits
- Your dental board can visit your office without notice and review patient files
- Regardless of why your dental board is investigating you, you can be sanctioned for recordkeeping deficiencies
