The Most Essential Part of the Successful Sedation Experience: The Pre-Sedation Workup Appointment

It’s not just what happens during a sedation appointment that makes it successful.

Arguably more important is what happens in advance of that appointment: patient screening, appointing, data collection, selection, team as well as patient preparation, and finally, scheduling of the sedation appointment. The sedation practice needs a system to accomplish all of this comprehensively and efficiently.

Presented by DOCS Education and Dean of Faculty, Dr. Anthony Feck, DMD, this presentation will cover everything from A to Z when it comes to setting up the sedation team to a higher rate of safety as well as practice and patient satisfaction. Attendees will learn how to screen new patients – over the phone or in person – to make sure the time invested in a sedation workup appointment is not wasted.

• List the steps of the sedation work-up, and which steps can be delegated to qualified personnel.
• Explain when a medical consultation should be sought, and how it should be undertaken.
• List the seven deal breakers when it comes to patient selection.
• Explain what modifications need to be made to regular sedation protocol based on patient characteristics, medical conditions, or medications.
• List the instructions the sedation patient should be given prior to the sedation appointment.
